ENI Announces First Foray into Supplemental Education Services |

This fall marks a new chapter in ENI’s history of raising student achievement. For the first time, ENI has partnered in the growing area of Supplemental Education Services (SES). In a partnership formed over the summer, ENI will provide instructional content and assessment technology for services provided by multi-state SES provider, Alternatives Unlimited (AU).
Through this relationship, Alternatives Unlimited will use ENI’s iTargetTeach® management software, TargetFundamentals™ remedial activities, and take-home program Parent Assisted Learning Packets®, also known as PALS. AU will administer diagnostic tests in Reading and/or Math from the TargetFundamentals™ series to each participating student. Results will be scored using iTargetTeach® with reports available immediately. AU tutors will review the web-based iTargetTeach® reports to determine the individual instructional plan for each student.
Using the iTargetTeach® software, AU tutors will print the TargetFundamentals® instructional activities needed for each student (or group of students). Following tutoring in the after-school SES programs, tutors will have the option of printing and distributing follow-up activities that students can complete at home with their parents or guardians. These activities, from ENI's Parent Assisted Learning Packets®, will further support students’ mastery of the key, foundational skills covered in the SES tutoring.
ENI welcomes the chance to discuss this model with districts providing their own SES services—or those who would like to refer ENI to SES providers who serve their district. To request information or to recommend others that ENI should contact, please get in touch with your ENI representative, email info@evansnewton.com, or call Loren Sucher at 800-443-0544 ext. 277. |

Nationally Known Superintendent, Walter Amprey, Supports ENI |

When a nationally recognized education leader supports an instructional program, educators listen. Dr. Walter Amprey, former superintendent of Baltimore City Public Schools, has taken such an interest in Evans Newton Incorporated and the proven TargetTeach® process. Dr. Amprey is widely known for leadership he has provided in organizations such as The Council of the Great City Schools and the National Association of Black School Educators.
In a letter that Dr. Amprey recently sent to districts throughout the country, he said the following about ENI:
“As a lifetime educator and former superintendent of Baltimore City Public Schools, my life’s mission has been to improve the education of struggling students. That mission continues today with my goal of helping other superintendents identify proven solutions for raising student achievement.
“As one who has sat where you now sit [ in the superintendent’s position], I understand your desire to select and implement proven changes—initiatives that you are confident will increase the success of your students, teachers, and administrators. In that spirit, I recommend that you take a serious look at TargetTeach from Evans Newton Incorporated (ENI).”

ENI appreciates Dr. Amprey’s endorsement, along with the positive recommendations that so many of you make to colleagues in the education profession. Sharing your own successes is the best way to help other educators learn how they can also realize their goals of high student achievement. Thank you for helping us get the word to others. |
ENI is Proud to Welcome a Long List of Partners to the ENI Family |

South Haven, Jackson County Intermediate, Washtenaw County Intermediate, Ithaca, Benton Harbor, L’Anse Creuse, Henry Ford Academy, Iron Mountain, Stockbridge Community, East China, Covert (which also chose TargetFundamentals™ and TargetStrategies®), Ann Arbor, and Lansing.
Evans Newton extends a hearty welcome to all our new educational partners. Their diverse locations, sizes, and needs are testament to the many ways in which ENI invests itself in each district’s commitment to improve our children’s education. |
Tips for Successful Implementation |
We asked our expert senior consultant, Pat Richardson, for advice on successful implementations to send along to our district partners. Pat is well-known and well-loved for the assistance she has provided to countless administrators and teachers. Her insights spring from her many years of implementation experience “in the trenches.” For this month's issue, Pat offers the following insights:
- Academic leadership sets the tone. Whenever leaders gives consistent attention, they will receive consistent attention by their instructional staff.
- Quick, visible, positive noting (celebrations, announcements, lead and closing of staff meetings) encourages continued expansion of whatever is highlighted…it plants the seed and nurtures it.
- Inspect what you expect…you then can expect to find what you (at least appear to) inspect.
- Include some item related to implementation in every staff meeting (large and small) as well as any other academically based gathering.
- Delegate responsibilities for sharing (grade level meetings/department meetings/small group meetings) and require some type of regular whole-staff feedback of highlights from those sessions.
Thanks, Pat! Your “nuggets” of wisdom are appreciated!

ENI Expands Coaching Options |

ENI has now added Advanced Coaching and Administrator Coaching for those who have experienced the benefits of standard ENI
coaching and are ready for the next step.
Advanced Coaching for specific locations and educators can include a combination and
expansion of activities. We recommend that educators select one to four activities per building. Many of these suggestions depend on the number of coaching days involved as well as the number of staff members to be coached. Advanced Coaching may include working with teachers to support strategies for increasing effectiveness such as the following:
• Work with teachers as teams to expand to tri-ads/ peer coaching models that help educators learn to coach each other
• Develop teacher-requested focus for continued growth all based on Best Practice
• Identify specific areas of interest or need and provide support for growth in those areas, for example, Differentiated Instruction, Writer’s Workshop, Block Schedule Planning, Rubric Design and or use
• “Contract” with teachers for specific professional growth targets in identified areas (with or without administrator suggestions)
• Expand use of reflective teaching
ENI's Administrator Coaching assists administrators in strengthening instructional leadership skills.
After administrators have completed TargetWalk™ training, the natural
continuation is Administrator Coaching. Most coaching will be on site;
however, there are some remote options to help fit busy schedules. There are many options available, such as:
• Meet one-on-one or in a pair/triad model of multiple administrators
• Set specific goals, location, and staff to be included in the observation
• Conduct a TargetWalk™ with follow-up dialogue, including a minimum of three half-day visits
• Conduct 30 to 45 minute telephone conference calls to assist in planning reflection questions and/or
follow-up activities following several TargetWalk™ sessions (three to four calls spaced throughout the year
create maximum usefulness/effectiveness)
• Conduct small group or one-on-one sessions to develop/discuss follow-up design and reflection questions
identified by administrator
• Model TargetWalk™ with the coach sharing his or her thinking related to identified, observed behaviors
