Alternatives Unlimited
Background: Alternatives Unlimited is a leading provider of after-school tutoring delivered through the Supplemental Educational Services under NCLB. With tutoring centers in 18 states, Alternatives Unlimited provides tutoring services to over 4800 SES students each school year.
Project Description: In the summer of 2007, Alternatives Unlimited was seeking to improve their instructional materials and strategies for their nationwide tutoring activities. ENI responded with a web-based system to assess students and give tutors high-quality instructional activities. As each new student is enrolled in the program, AU tutors administer an ENI diagnostic test that is scanned and scored immediately. Tutors then use ENI’s web-based reports to select ENI instructional activities and download them. The result is an instructional program tailored to each student’s needs using exclusively ENI materials.
Outcomes: Following the first year of using ENI's assessment and instructional system, Alternatives Unlimited's results indicate that student growth in English language arts and math nearly doubles between their pretest and post test. The trend is consistent across both subjects for grades K-12.

Tulsa Public Schools Virtually Eliminate the Impact of Poverty on Achievement
"Evans Newton Inc. and the TargetTeach process have produced significant, positive results in Tulsa Public Schools. Teachers are using the best-aligned materials for instruction of the Oklahoma Priority Academic Student Skills (PASS) standards. Formative assessments and detailed progress reports are helping us to monitor students progress toward proficiency on the Oklahoma Core Competency Test (OCCT) and to adapt instruction as needed. The success started with our schools who most needed improvement, and we are pleased now to see it benefiting all our buildings."View details- Dr. Mary Guinn, Deputy Superintendent
Tulsa Public Schools, OK
Background: Located in Tulsa Public Schools serves over 40,000 students in 90 schools. The district serves an ethnically diverse student population in which over 70% are eligible for free and reduced lunch. TargetTeach® has been implemented at all levels K-12.
Project Description: TPS engaged ENI in January 2005 to focus their educators on instruction that is directly correlated to state standards by using ENI's TargetTeach® process. ENI responded by providing deep curriculum alignments, formative assessments, custom-built instructional materials, and professional development with teacher coaching.
Outcomes: During spring 2005, TPS started with an initial 12-week intervention in 25 TPS Title I schools; 23 of the 25 participating schools made their academic requirements for AYP. TPS subsequently expanded TargetTeach® to every building in the district in fall 2005. This led to measurable increases in achievement for sub-populations and a reduction in the number of school improvement buildings. As of spring 2008, TPS was down from 37 to 11 school improvement buildings with six poised to come off in 2009. At that time, TPS was removed from the district improvement list. The charts that follow show that over the course of the project, TPS has virtually eliminated the effect of poverty on student achievement.

My students don't have room for a lot of error in materials presented to them for the state mandated tests, therefore we must focus on materials that the state test will cover.
